'Ignoring seer's advice an insult to Hinduism'

Published on:

The controversial issue of climbing chariots and touching the deities at Puri was raised in the State Assembly on Monday with the BJP questioning the Government’s non-acceptance of the Puri Shankaracharya’s decision.

The Congress also demanded a one-day discussion on the issue.

Raising the matter BJP member Basant Panda asked the Government as to why the Shankaracharya’s advice is not being accepted. Congress member Tara Prasad Bahinipati requested the Speaker to allow the House for a full discussion on the issue.

“Touching deities on the chariots is strictly prohibited. When the Government is not complying with the Shankaracharya’s advice, it is an insult to the whole Hindu community,” BJP member Panda said.
