IG (CR) of Police RP Kochhe recently visited the district here to select a site for the setting up of proposed marine police station at Tantiapala in seaside Mahakalpada block.SP Satish Kumar Gajavhiye accompanied Kochhe during his visit to Tantiapala aiming to identify a place for the proposed marine police station at Tantiapala.

According to Gajavhiye, though an earlier notification for setting up marine police station at Tantiapala was made, but the problem lay with site selection.“We have surveyed three places including Tantiapala, Sasanpeta and Babar between Tantiapala and Gahirmatha range office for setting up of marine police station,” informed Gajavhiye.

Meanwhile, it has been decided that the marine police station is going to be opened at Tantiapala fishery jetty temporarily from Friday. The building of the proposed marine police station would be constructed on the available land either on the coast of sea or Hansua river mouth, added the SP.With the setting up of Tantiapala marine police station, the number of marine police station at coastal Kendrapara would go up to three.

Notably, to check the influx of Bangladeshis from the sea route, curb down illegal entry of trawlers in the Bay of Bengal for fishing, minimize criminal activities, smuggling and helping the Forest Department during the exigencies to protect the endangered species from the poachers, the state Home Department had first decided to establish marine police station in the district in 2003.
