'If in power, Cong to waive farm loans'

Published on:

If voted to power in the 2019 elections, the Congress will waive the entire loans of farmers in the State.

This was reiterated by Pradesh Congress president Niranjan Patnaik on Friday.

The Congress would also increase the monthly old age pension to Rs 1,000 from the present Rs 300, he promised.

Addressing party workers and public here, Patnaik said that neither the State Government nor the Centre is worried about the welfare of farmers.

He alleged that the BJD Government has betrayed the people of the State during its 18 years of rule. The unemployment figure in the State is high while farmers are at

the receiving end due to lack of development in the agriculture sector.

Farmers are committing suicide after being denied their dues. The law and order situation has also worsened in the State under the BJD Government, Patnaik added.

Odisha in-charge of Congress Jitendra Singh said the BJD Government has failed on all fronts during its rule and people should give a befitting answer to the ruling party in the upcoming elections. He appealed to Congress workers to bury their differences and unitedly fight against the BJD.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of Congress activists had taken out a bike rally from Mahidharpur to Angul town to welcome the OPCC president.

Presiding over the meeting, State Women Congress president Sashmita Behera, who belongs to Angul, said that women are unsafe in the State as incidents of their abuse and harassment are on the rise.

It is the right time to dethrone the BJD Government and we must work united towards achieving this target.

The meeting was also addressed by party leaders Sarat Pattanayak, Amar Pradhan, Akshya Samanta, Sabita Dhir, Biplab Jena, Ambika Bhat and Sangram Mishra.
