Idco likely to have Odisha hockey franchise for HIl

Within the short period it is very difficult to organise more than one public sector undertakings (PSUs) to have hockey franchise team for the State. In this context Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco) is planning to purchase hockey franchise team for the State, said an insider.

After the enormous success in the inaugural season, the second season will see the toughest battles among the six teams. The second edition of the Hockey India league (HIl) will be played from January 23 to February 23.

Though two or more PSU’s are willing to participate in the HIl, but the legal technicalities required to form another company who will have the ownership of the team, need more then two months. As the matches would begin from January the official works should be completed before October, said a hockey coach.

It could have better if the State Government should invite some privet corporate houses to have the ownership of the team. As it was estimated the owners have to spend Rs 12 crore and the return would be around Rs 9 crore in the first year and the owner would reach the breakeven after third years.

If in future the Comptroller and Accounts General (CAG) makes a mark that knowing pretty well about the financial transaction and the PSU going to face a loss, why and how the Government Undertaking PSU accepted the proposal.

As the Sports and Youth Services Department has been planning to hand over the newly-constructed Hockey Complex of the Kalinga Stadium to the Tata Hockey Academy. The stadium was constructed by the State Government fund while giving to a privet company for the betterment of hockey in our State. Why the State Government is not giving proposal to Tata Steel to have the hockey franchise team for the State, asked a senior bureaucrat.
