The Right to Food Campaign, a State-level forum of civil society groups undertaking campaign for effective implementation of food security programme, has alleged that though the State Government has given Rs2 crore to an NGO for training of members of Jaanch and Mothers’ Committee under the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), it has not happened at the grassroots level.
According to Campaign State convenor Pradip Pradhan, after a series of field monitoring on implementation of ICDS in many districts we found that the members of the Jaanch and Mothers’ Committees were hardly aware about their role and responsibilities to monitor the ICDS benefits.
“Keeping in view the lack of awareness among the members we have submitted an RTI application at the Women and Child Development Department seeking information about details of training conducted for members the committees, details of fund sanctioned for it, name of the NGOs given responsibility for undertaking training for it and details of selection procedure for followed for selecting the NGOs, etc,” said Pradhan.
Complying with the RTI application, the W&CD Department PIO informed us that TRIOS Development Support Private limited was allocated Rs2 crore for conducting training for the members.
“It shows that the agency was sanctioned fund without any open advertisement illegally. Interestingly, total fund has already spent for conducting training programme in the State while members of the committees are still unaware about it,” alleged Pradhan.
