The Sundargarh Vigilance registered cases against two beneficiaries and a Panchayat Executive Officer for irregularities in the Indira Awas Yojana (IAY).

Sources said following report of massive irregularities in the allotment of IAY and Biju Pucca Ghar house in Sundargarh district, the Vigilance had recently conducted an inquiry at J Raiboga Panchayat under lepripada block. One Sabitri Bhoi had been allotted house under the Indira Awas scheme during the year 2014-15. She had been provided Rs 75,000 for construction of the house but her house was not built on recorded land she had cited. There was no sign of any house physically on the plot. The Vigilance team found only a few bricks on her plot. Another Khundula Munda, a resident of Janakani village, allegedly grabbed two houses under Indira Awas scheme. Khundula had got Rs 48,500 for construction of a house during the year 2011-12 and he again had availed Rs 1,30,000 for construction of a house during 2016-17.

The Vigilance team found that Panchayat Executive Officer Mahendra Kharsel was responsible for these irregularities in allotment of the IAY house. Significantly, during the first week of July, the Vigilance had registered cases against a PEO and four members of a rich family, including one former Gram Rojgar Sevak, at Khatkhurbahal Gram Panchayat under Kutra block on the same ground.
