IAS officer suspension revocation: K Sena threatens agitation

Published on:

A few days after the State Government revoked the suspension of IAS officer Prasanta Kumar Nayak, the Kalinga Sena, a political outfit, on Thursday threatened mass agitation if the order is not withdrawn soon.

Notably, the IAS officer had been suspended in 2006 in connection with gangrape of a girl on July 9, 1999 here.

The outfit informed that it would protest the decision of the State Government by taking all women groups across the State.

“Prasant Nayak was the mastermind in the ganagrape of a poor girl from Baleswar at an apartment in Bhubaneswar. Sensing the gravity of the case, the HC had ordered the CBI to carry out the probe and Nayak was also prosecuted. Following it the State Government suspended him in 2006,” said Sena supremo Hemanta Rath at a Press conference.Rath said the Government had suspended him under rule 3 (3) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969 on the ground of trial relating to criminal charges involving moral turpitude pending against him.

“Then on what ground the Government revoked the suspension of Nayak while the case is pending against him at the CBI court,” asked Rath.

He also questioned the intention of the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary in lifting suspension.
