The Gajapati Zilla Parishad Vigilance Committee has brought out charges of fund bungling against Mohana block IAP project executors. The committee alleged before the district Collector that while construction of a check dam is shown in the block notice board as completed, physically there is no such construction in the mentioned canal site.
“The Government grants huge amount of money under the Integrated Action Plan (IAP) for better connectivity and development of Gajapati district but misappropriation of funds has made the district more backward,” the committee told the district Collector.
Gajapati ZP vice-president Bimbadhar Nayak said the Zilla Parishad had suggested construction of Jangudi canal, Uper canal, Ada canal check dam work in Mandimera and Rapanka gram pacnhayats at an estimated cost of Rs19 lakh under the IAP plan at a meeting in October 2014. Now, it is reflected in the BDO’s notice board that the work has already been completed by January 2015. However, the committee did not find any check dam constructed at the proposed site, he said.
Meanwhile, villagers, who are mostly tribals, have demanded a free and fair inquiry into the alleged irregularities. To this, Mohana BDO Manoranjan Das said an inquiry would be conducted soon and action would be taken accordingly. “Appropriate action would be taken against the officer concerned if found guilty. The work must be done,” he said.
