The Rourkela Mahila police on Saturday arrested one Bablu Tanty, who had been absconding since March 2012 following filing of a dowry torture case against him.
According to the police, Bablu, a resident of Abajarbahal under the Brahmani Taranga police station, had married Pinky Tanty of Bondhamunda area in 2006 after both fell in love and eloped. They have two children.
After their marriage, for some years they were leading a happy married life, but the sweet relationship turned sour when Bablu started suspecting Pinky’s fidelity and tortured her. In March last year, having no other way, Pinky narrated everything to her family and then they lodged an FIR alleging dowry harassment at the Mahila police station.
Since then Bablu was absconding to evade arrest. Acting a tip-off, the Mahila police on Friday raided his house and apprehended him. later, he was forwarded to court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
