Around twenty human and three buffalo skulls and bones were recovered under the liakhai bridge over the Kusabhadra river on the Puri-Konark marine drive road under the Ramachandi police station on Sunday.
While the skulls have turned dark and blackish, some puja materials were also lying at the site. It was apparent that the skulls came to the locals’ notice after the fall in river water level.
“The skulls and bones were suspected to have been brought by some tantriks or black magicians for their activities, but the exact fact would be ascertained only after a thorough investigation,” said Nimapada Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Subash Mohanty. Meanwhile, the Ramachadi police registered an unnatural death case and started investigation into the incident.
Notably, last year the dead body of a girl was also found just a few meter away from the liakhai bridge whose identity is yet to be ascertained. The police have sent the skulls to the FMT (Forensic Medicine & Toxicology) Department at the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.
locals suspected it to be human sacrifice cases and demanded immediate disclosure of the incident. “last year, the body of a girl was found here. The police are neither able to identify the deceased girl nor solve the case so far. Hence, we demand a through inquiry to find out the exact issue,” said locals.
