Members of various civil organisations, noted persons, youths and students under the banner of the Mahanagar Nagarika Mancha on Friday organised a human chain at the Nejaji Cetu here in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and proposed National Population Register.
“Through the Citizenship Amendment Act, the Union Government is trying to divide the country on religion basis. After stiff protests, the Government is now trying to prepare NRC through the National Population Register,” alleged protestors.
They demanded withdrawal of CAA, proposed NPR and NCR and stopping of police action against p0rotestoers. They too demanded compensation for family of the deceased who were killed during protest
Among others, Prof Birendra Nayak, Chittaranjan Mohanty, Prashant Das, Dr Satya Ray, Shishir Das, Jugal Kishore Nayak, Laxmi Mohanty, Bishwabasu Mohanty, Dali Das, Dr Bishwajit, Akshaya Das and Ganeshwar Sethi participated.
