A three-day preliminary inquiry by Binka Additional Tehsildar Chandini Meher into land grab of 56.763 acres in Kartang Mouza by some anti-social elements of the same village found a big land scam in Kartang.
Six Amins were deployed to demarcate the total Government land under un-authorised use in order to ascertain the veracity of the allegations levelled in petitions filed by some villagers of Kartang, Padhanpali and Sansamura with the administration.
However, the Amins who were deployed to demarcate the land have not cooperated with Additional Tehsildar Meher and did not submit daily
performance report. This has fuelled doubt on the involvement of revenue officials including Amins in the land scam.
Sources said in the last 15 years, land mafias have become increasingly active and encroached on Government land in and around Binka and Sonepur tehsil. Land documents and classifications were allegedly being modified before the property was sold to a third party for industries, commercial or residential purposes.
Landless families alleged that they were waiting for pattas from revenue authorities despite being entitled to homestead land as per Government welfare schemes.
Ranjit Panda, a denizen of Binka town, said there is a nexus between the they are able to commit the irregularities without any hindrances.
Locals demanded an impartial probe by the Vigilance into the land scam and exemplary action against the corrupt officials who are hand in glove.
