Even though nearly a month has passed since the cyclone Hudhud-hit Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coast, some tribal families of remote Podaguda village in Koraput district have alleged that they were yet to get Government aid to reconstruct their houses.

Members of these families are now spending days on the verandah of fellow villagers.

Kuda Hantal(40), one of the seven families, said her house roof was blown away in the strong wind and walls collapsed in the incessant rains.

“I lost 60 kg of ragi, 80 kg of paddy and other household articles in the cyclone,” she said.

Kuda is entitled to Rs17,600 as per the State’s relief code as her house was completely damaged.

Similarly, another villager said they had received far 5 kg of rice each on October 13, the day after the cyclone hit their village. “I lost my house in the cyclone and am trying to build a small hut with mud and branches of tree,” the villager said.

Sources said the Koraput district administration had received a total of Rs2.99 crore towards the damage of a total of 10,081 houses.

“The concerned tehsildars have been given relief funds for distribution among the people,” sources added.
