If teacher and student share a good bond and the teacher understands the methods of teaching, then the teaching-learning process becomes smooth, more efficient and effective. 2020 was the year of Covid-19 pandemic which taught many great lessons to everyone. The teaching community across the country had also many things to learn from their experiences.
They not only learned the art of virtual classroom through Google classroom, Google Meet, Zoom meetings but also designed curriculum overnight to meet the new demand, checked assignments, answer sheets and answered questions, and cleared doubts of the students at great speed like never before.
Designing of courses is an important task where one has to cater to needs of all types of learners in the classroom. The course design includes activities and teaching aids, so that the students' efficiency can be maximized.
It is said that when a teacher is teaching a new concept, he can do it efficiently if he relates the same to a previously taught lesson. Designing of courses of studies should be such that the students can relate to it, besides they find that they are acquainted with it.
During the pandemic period teaching skills have changed a lot and the teaching community has shown how they can adapt with a changed scenario. It was a new experience as they had to do new experiments.
Teacher's total involvement with teaching-learning curve of the students is an important issue. In other words, if a teacher invests himself or herself in the learning curve (how to present the topic how to explain the topic, citing examples, giving the clues so that students can analyze the topic, and finally get the answer), then the teaching will be very effective.
The delivery of lectures by the teachers must be clear and precise. The way the teacher presents the topic plays an important role in making the students understand the concept. Teaching aids help the students engage themselves and take interest in the topic.
Now the time has come when the teachers have to rethink as well as reimagine how to make the lecture delivery better. An important aspect of the teaching- learning process is assessment. How much students have learned and whether the design and presentation of concepts are working can be ensured through assessments. Evaluation and assessment stand to improve and fine-tune the teaching-learning process. They also come as a measurement for teachers’ efforts. If the whole class fails to gain much, it is important to recheck the methods used and change the strategies adopted by the teachers. A constant upgradation of course design should be made after assessing the methods of teaching and the level of understanding of students.
Teachers must adopt and employ new methodologies to rise up to the expectations. It is a two-way process and teachers must listen and learn from the students. During the pandemic, it became essential for the teachers to be upskilled or reskilled for adapting with virtual classroom work. As a result, teachers needed to learn the use of technology in the process of teaching. Skills adoption became a must for all teachers.
The need of the hour is the teachers need to learn the integration of the advance technology. The new age tool requires a new age mindset, who can master the use of these unthinkable tools in future.
These apart, communication lies at the heart of everything, and feedback from students and teachers must be gathered to alter the approach if need be.
Teaching is a lifelong process and the teachers are like the razors and if they donot sharpen their skills, they will become rusted soon.
