On the second day of the raid conducted by Vigilance officers on the house of Suresh Chandra Patra, Assistant Engineer, Drainage Sub-Division-II, Digapahandi in Ganjam district, cash amounting to Rs 27 lakh hidden in a trunk was detected and seized.

Being scared by the Vigilance raid, the family members of Patra shifted the trunk to the tenants of his house to avoid seizure.

However, on a tip-off, the Vigilance team raided the rented house and seized the cash-laden trunk. The trunk was carrying four bundles of Rs 1,000 notes, 85 bundles of Rs 500 notes and 10 bundles of Rs 100 notes.

Rumour had earlier spread in the town that the cash was found from the backyard drain of Patra’s house.

Besides this huge cash, assets worth Rs 2.22 crore were detected during the Vigilance raids on the houses of Patra and his family members. According to local Vigilance SP Hansada, the raids were continuing.
