House Surgeons keep dharna in abeyance

Published on:

The ongoing strike of the House Surgeons had taken an ugly turn when hundreds of house surgeons gheraoed the office of the Superintendent of the MKCG Medical College Hospital here on Monday to press for their three-point charter of demands.

The demands, among others, included increase of monthly stipend and appointment of house surgeons through the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC).

Though the House Surgeons here have been protesting along with their counterparts of the two other Government medical colleges of the State since Thursday last, the Government is still reluctant to discuss and resolve their long pending issues, rued House Surgeons’ Association president Dr Niharkant Jena.

The surgeons threatened that they would not undertake any Government work except attending patients if their genuine demands are not fulfilled.

However, Hospital Superintendent Prof Ashok Kumar Behera held talks with the House Surgeons and assured them to resolve the issues soon after a discussion with the Government.

later, the House Surgeons called off their dharna and kept it in abeyance.
