Intending to combat trafficking and sexual exploitation for commercial purpose, the Commissionerate police have sealed a residential house in the satellite city of Markat Nagar here.
"Following orders from the Police Commissioner, the Markat Nagar police have sealed a house in Sector 8 of the residential locality on Monday," informed city DCP Akhileswar Singh on Tuesday. He said the would be sealed for one year and all requisite procedures under the provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act of 1956 would be observed in this case.
Sources said the concerned house had been taken on rent by a pimp, who was running a sex racket from there for past several months. Despite repeated warnings from the local police, the pimp was not paying any heed to them and was carrying on the immoral activities in the residential area. "It was shocking to have a house inside a residential colony being declared as a brothel," said a resident of the locality. This is for the first time a residential house in the city has been declared as a brothel, said another.
