Police on Wednesday, after a marathon grilling, arrested the caretaker of the building at Patia under the Info City police station in the city where the Uzbekistan woman in news used to stay.
The police arrested Tapas Jana, who hails from West Bengal and is suspected to be a pimp. The police found pictures of 70 girls, including the arrested Uzbek woman, from Jena’s mobile phone along with details of the money they charged.
The police also ascertained the names and addresses of other accused staying in the building and running the high-profile sex racket.
“We have arrested and court-forwarded an accused, and a hunt is on to nab the others involved in the immoral activity,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi.
Two others, including a woman, promoting the flesh trade here are still absconding, police said. During interrogation, Tapas Jena said he used to prepare food for the building’s inhabitants and hinted that the owner of the house is in mining business.
It may be noted that though the Commissionerate police have asked the owners to register details about tenants in the local police station, many owners continue to flout the advisory. Taking advantage of this, many dubious characters are able to take buildings and flats on rent and carry out their nefarious activities.
The police have said that if any building is used to carry out sex trade or any other illegal activities, they would seal it. A couple of months ago, they sealed as many as 10 buildings in the twin cities for carrying out sex trade.
