Hours before arrest, Rehman solemnised K'pada wedding

If sources are to be believed, Abdul Rehman, arrested in al-Qaeda link case, had been to Ali area in order to solemnise nikah (marriage) of a minority community person at Padanpur village on December 15, the day he was arrested.

Rehman came to Padanpur village to perform as a kazi (legally empowered to register Muslim marriages and divorces) in the wedding that was held at a local mosque.

According to sources, one Mojahid Sidique , son of Kamiruddin Siddique of Padanpur village under Aul police station married Roshna, daughter of Sk Riyasat of Mitalnagar at the local Mitalnagar mosque. The father of Mojahid had invited Rehman to pay a visit to his village for solemnizing the nikah.

Rehman solemnised the nikah and returned back to Paschimakachha village at about 2.30 pm after staying in Aul for about couple of hours. later, on that night, he was arrested in a joint raid conducted by the Commissionerate police and Delhi police at his home.

According to Kamirrudin, father of newly married Mojahid, he did not know that Rehman, a renowned Islamic preacher, has link with a terrorist organization. “I came to know about Maulana Rehman’s link with terrorists on December 16 from the media,” he said.

Two years back, Rehman had come to Aul area as a guest to give his religious discourse on Islam at Taqrrer (a religious function of Muslims). His speech on Islam religion and Prophet Mohammed was eloquent.

“As a result, we both the husband and wife had decided to get the nikah solemnized by Reheman,” informed mother of Mojahir. “Had we got any hint about Rehman’s possible link with terrorist organization, we would not have invited him,” said Kamiruddin, adding, “Our family members had a great respect earlier for Rehman, but it is all gone now.”

Meanwhile, a question arises if Rehman, who umpteen times came to Aul and all other Muslim dominated places in the district to give religious discourses, had not developed his terror network in the districtIJ

When contacted Kendrapada ASP Ramesh Chandra Mohanty informed that the matter is under investigation.
