: The Sambalpur Police have successfully nabbed the miscreants involved in a burglary from a reputed hotel of the city and recovered nearly 85 percent of the stolen money.
As per information, four days back, few staff of the hotel, Sheela Towers, had stolen Rs 39 lakh from the office of the owner Harjit Singh Hura. In the case, the owner had informed Dhanupali police. The police under the guidance of SP B Gangadhar, SDPO Sadar PK Sahu and IIC Dhanupali Anita Pradhan took it up as a challenge and from CCTV footage got the clues to reach out to the culprits involved in the theft.
“First we apprehended the prime accused Rakesh alias Dileswar Behera of Balibandha near Kunjelpara of the city. After thorough interrogation, he admitted the offence and disclosed the hideout of the stolen cash in Deogarh including participation of three others,” informed the SP Gangadhar. Rakesh was an ex-employee of Sheela Towers.
The police team, basing on the information from Rakesh proceeded to Banakal village of Deogarh and recovered cash of Rs 32.10 lakh that was kept concealed under the earth in the house of the other co-accused.
After leaving job from the hotel, Rakesh had hatched a conspiracy with three other staff of the hotel for a burglary from the hotel. Accordingly, on April 15 night, Rakesh climbed up to the office of the owner on the fourth floor with the help of a bamboo. As per the previous plan, the other staff kept the back door of the office open to facilitate entry of Rakesh. Rakesh entered into the office, opened the almirah with a screw bar and then decamped with the entire cash of Rs 39 lakh.
“Basing on the CCTv footage, we not only recovered the major quantity of the cash, we have also arrested Manas Pradhan (cook), Jogeswar Behera (waiter) and Gobinda Mallick (receptionist) since all of them actively helped Rakesh in materializing the burglary,” the SP informed.
After recovering the major chunk of the cash, we have handed it over to the owner of the hotel Hura,” he said further.
