Another incident of negligence by Government school teachers causing harm to an innocent student has come to the fore in Malkangiri district.
According to reports, Santosh Turuka, a Class V student of the Serpali Residential School, suffered burn injuries in his right hand as he came in contact with hot dal during the cooking of the midday meal in the school. Turuka belongs to Markapali village of Bhandaripangam gram panchayat under Mathili block in Malkangiri district.
Though the incident occurred on Saturday last, it came to light recently as the school is located in a remote area. The family members of Santosh were not informed about the incident appropriately. It is also alleged that the school authorities provided desi treatment to Santosh instead of medical treatment.
When contacted schoolteacher Mada Madkami said Santosh has been sent to his house as per his family members’ requests. District Welfare Officer (DWO) Krupasindhu Behera said he would go to the school and conduct an investigation soon.
