The inmates of Kendrapara Autonomous College’s women hostel on Saturday closed the main entrance gate of the college and staged a road blockade at the Cuttack-Chandabali road.
According to the inmates of the women hostel, superintendent of the hostel Prof Pradipta Kumar Das remains absent from the hostel. Besides, he never acted seriously to mitigate the woes of the inmates. He also threatened the inmates to dismiss them from hostel if they pestered him repeatedly.
The students alleged that college authority has also been taking excess fees for admission, re-admission, form-fill up and meal. The inmates of the hostel were forced to provide establishment fees twice during admission and readmission.
They complained that the clerk was misbehaving with the girl inmates. They said no steps were taken to maintain hygiene in the hostel, while several outsiders were allegedly entering into the hostel premises in an inebriated condition. There are several instances of inmates having faced nuisance of the non-college students.
The girls said that their repeated complaints with the Principal yielded no results and demanded disengaging the hostel superintendent, clerk and manager.
As vehicular traffic came to a standstill due to the blockade, Sub Collector Kanhu Charan Dhir, SDPO Purna Chandra Pradhan, Tehsildar Pravas Beura, Kendrapara Town police station IIC Sanjeev Kumar Mohanty, along with a police team, rushed to the spot to pacify the students.
The blockade was later withdrawn after Principal Satyaranjan Sarangi and the senior officials of the district administration assured the students to look into their demands and take necessary action.
