Police on Saturday night detained the owner of a private hostel at Chandi Chowk here on the charge of misbehaving with a girls’ hostel inmate.
The student, a native of Jagatsinghpur district, was identified as a Plus Three first-year student of the Sailabala Women’s College here.
The incident took place while the girl staying at the private hostel was alone in her room when the accused entered into the room suddenly.
Finding the victim alone he misbehaved with her. When the victim opposed and screamed, he thrashed her. The frightened girl locked herself in the hostel washroom to escape from him.
The girl came out of the room after her roommates returned and narrated the incident to them.
On being informed, the victim’s parents picked her from the hostel and lodged a complaint with Lalbagh police.
Acting on the complaint, cops registered a case and detained the accused for questioning.
