The condition of Odisha’s conjoined twins Jaga and Kalia, who were separated after surgery at the All India Institute  of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, was stated to be stable on Wednesday. This brightened hopes of their recovery, said hospital doctors.

Dr Ashok Mohapatra , who led the team of surgeons, said Jaga’s condition has improved considerably and he is out of ventilator but he would stay in the ICU for three more days. After that he would be shifted to the general ward.

But as Kalia is weaker among the two, it would take some more time for him to be stable, Dr Mohapatra said.

Kalia is suffering from fits, for which he has been administered medicines, which is making him drowsy and sleepy. But he is responding to the treatment, he added.

Meanwhile, Odisha Health Minister Pratap Jena on the day visited the hospital and discussed with the doctors about the health conditions of the twins. He said the doctors informed him that it was a very complex operation, but the results have been satisfactory. After the twins were separated, everybody was apprehensive about Kalia’s wellbeing, but now it seems he is improving with God’s grace, Jena said.

Meanwhile, for the first time after the surgery, the mother of the twins met them at the hospital on Wednesday.
