Four anti-socials bashed a youth in broad daylight with cricket stumps at Gandhi Marg here on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti day. The incident came to the fore after CCTV footages of the incident went viral on social media on Saturday.
When the youth, an agent of a finance company, was going by a bike, the four masked hooligans waylaid him at Gandhi Marg. The assailants had come by two bikes, the number plates of which were covered. While one of them stood near the bikes, three others thrashed the youth brutally with cricket stumps.
The situation was so fierce that locals did not dare to save the youth. When the youth rushed into a grocery shop to escape, the hooligans dragged him out and again bashed him.
While the incident triggered panic among the locals, many questioned efficiency of police in maintaining law and order.
“Though CCTV cameras have been installed everywhere, anti-socials are committing such crimes without any fear of being caught. The district police should take this issue into serious consideration,” said a local.
