In a horrific case of honour killing, a couple at Goutami village under Digapahandi block in Ganjam district was arrested on Thursday on the charge of beating their daughter to death after she refused to marry the man chosen by them and insisted on marrying her lover. During interrogation by the police, the couple confessed to murdering their daughter on August 1 when she refused to end her affair with her lover even after being engaged to another man. The parents beat the girl to death with a piece of wood and then chopped her body before throwing the body parts into a village canal. The body of the girl was recovered on August 4. Saura Jena, father of the girl, said his daughter was talking to someone else on the sly though her marriage was fixed.
