In a development in the Archana Nag case, the Commissionerate police on Friday arrested Archana’s husband Jagabandhu Chand.

A police team picked up Jagabandhu from his Satya Vihar residence in the Palasuni area here in the morning. He was arrested after the cops during probe ascertained his involvement in Archana’s high-profile honey-trap and extortion racket.

Archana’s lawyer Debashis Mohapatra said, “Recently, he (Jagabandhu) underwent an operation in his throat and is under treatment. He had been cooperating with police in the investigation. The police are carrying out their investigation and we can’t raise questions on it.”

Sources said Jaganadhu was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged at the Khandagiri police station by a woman on October 2 that it was Jagabandhu and his associate Khageswar who trapped her.

She also alleged that Archana, Jagabandhu and Khageswar earned crores of rupees by utilising her.

Earlier, a lot of questions had been raised as to why police were not arresting Jagabandhu and Khageswar though they were actively involved in the honey-trap and extortion racket.

Notably, Archana was arrested on October 7 on the charges of honey-trapping and extorting money from several influential people. After her bail was rejected by the Bhubaneswar SDJM Court on October 17, she is lodged at the Jharpada jail.
