Home Secretary Asit Tripathy on Wednesday reviewed the Maoist activities and also took stock of the anti-Maoist strategy for the year 2016 prepared by the

State Government.

The review meeting was attended by DGP KB Singh, Intelligence Director Sunil Roy, IG (Operation) Soumendra Priyadarshi and many other senior police officials at the State Secretariat.

“The State police have achieved remarkable success in anti-Maoist operations in 2015. The Maoists have lost their support base in Odisha,” said DGP Singh after the meeting.

“We are quite satisfied with our efforts in tackling the Maoist menace. Our performance in 2015 was very good. Maoists have become desperate and are morally down. They are now targeting locals and innocent villagers by killing them as they have lost their base,” said Singh.

He also said the combing operations would be intensified against the Maoists.

Notably, during the senior police officers’ conference earlier this month, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had openly expressed his displeasure over the alleged failure of police officers in tackling the Maoist violence in certain districts.
