Home Guards called off their 15-day-long agitation and decided to resume duty from Wednesday night following discussions with senior State Government officials, who assured them to take measures on a priority basis to meet their six-point charter of demands.
Nikhil Utkal Gruharakhi Mahasangh president Sukant Mohanty said, “The Government acceded to the demands and urged us to call off the strike. I appeal to all Home Guards across the State to resume duty from Wednesday night.”
He also warned the Government of dire consequences if their demands are not met at the earliest. The Home Guards have been demanding enhancement of daily allowance to Rs400 from per day from Rs200.
