A Home Guard on duty was attacked with a sharp weapon by two miscreants near Masani Chandi Chhak here early on Tuesday morning. The injured victim, identified as Gunamani Rout, was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital.
Doctors at the hospital said Rout sustained grievous injuries in his hand, head and back.
Sources said bombs had been hurled at Gokha Sahi under the Baseli police limits over a land dispute two days back. Suspecting involvement of two local youths, police had tightened security and carried out patrolling to avoid any further untoward incident.
At around 5.30 am on Tuesday, police saw the two youths in the locality and chased them. But the duo managed to escape from the spot.
Later, the two youths came across the Home Guard, who was on duty near Masani Chandi Chhak. Finding him alone, they attacked him with a sword.
