A headmaster of a Government tribal girls’ school of Sundargarh was arrested and forwarded to court on Tuesday, allegedly for sexually exploiting girl inmates of school hostels.
The accused was identified as Laxminarayan Senapati (60), headmaster of Tudalaga Government Girls High School under Bargaon block. The girl inmates of the school hostel alleged that while they came to the headmaster’s official residence in the school premises to use telephone, Senapati allegedly sexually exploited about seven girls.
The inmates in fear and shame had not told anyone about the incident.
One minor girl inmate who also faced similar harassment by Senapati in his residence, however, narrated the incident before her mother. When some guardians of other students came to know about the act of the headmaster, they went to the school on Sunday evening and scolded Senapati. The father of the victim minor girl lodged an FIR in Bargaon police station on Sunday evening.
On Monday, as per the direction of Sundargarh SP Soumya Mishra, Rajgangpur SDPO Bijay Kumar Nanda and Bargaon police station IIC Suryakanti Das went to Tudalaga girls high school and conducted an inquiry. After getting prima facie evidence against the headmaster, they arrested him. Significantly, Senapati would retire from job on June 30 this year.
