Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday said the water bearing capacity of the Hirakud Dam has considerably decreased.
“The water bearing capacity of the Hirakud Dam, which was 5,834 million cubic feet after its construction, has now come down to 4,823 million cubic feet,” Patnaik said in a written reply to a question by BJD member Prafulla Samal.
Replying to another question by the BJD member on construction of barrages and dams in upper catchments of Mahanadi by the Chhattisgarh Government, the Chief Minister said the neighbouring State till date has constructed eight large projects, 34 medium projects, 1,902 small projects and 3,820 barrages.
