Hirakud to release floodwater today

While incessant rains have triggered flood-like situations in several districts across the State, the Hirakud Dam authorities are all set to release the first floodwater of the season on Wednesday.

As the water level of the dam’s reservoir has increased due to heavy rains in the upper catchment of the Mahanadi, the authorities would release floodwater anytime after 11 am on August 14, said an official.

On Tuesday, the water level of the reservoir stood at 616.87 feet as against the highest level of 630 feet.

While around 80,491 cusecs of water was entering into the reservoir, 18,519 cusec was being discharged from it.

In 2018, floodwater had been released first from the dam on July 24 when the water level of the reservoir stood at 618 feet.
