Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, released on Friday, faced with protests on the charge that it features a song which hurts the religious sentiments of Hindus.
The protesters said the song with words Havan Kund Mastonka Jhund, Havan Karenge and the action therein are related to the ritual of Havan in Hinduism and Havan is a sacred Hindu religious ritual. Hindu organisations including the Bharat Raksha Manch, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh lodged an FIR at the Kharavel Nagar police station here seeking action under Sections 124A, 153A, 153B, 292, 293 and 295A of the Indian Penal Code against those responsible for hurting Hindu sentiments.
They demanded cancellation of the certificate issued to this film by writing a petition to the Central Board of Film Certification. Members of these organisations also picketed the cinema theatres in the city.
The protesters pointed out that in June this year, actress Kavita Verma had caused denigration of Christianity by wearing a rosary and a Cross around her waist in the movie Policegiri.
Due to protests lodged by the Christian Secular Forum, the producer of the film tendered an apology and Central Board of Film Certification immediately deleted the objectionable part from the film.
They also alleged that presently religious sentiments of Hindus are purposefully insulted through movies of various kinds.
Would Akhtar have dared to use word ‘Namaz’ in place of ‘Havan’ in the song in question in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, they asked and warned if their demand is not met, agitations by lawful means would be launched all over the country.
