Good news for the traders of the Rupali Haat Byabasaika Sangha, Saheed Nagar here. The damaged roofs of all 220 ‘pindis’ (platforms) of the traders would be rebuilt by the Hindalco under the guidance of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), thanks to the efforts of the city-based social organisation Jai Odisha.The company will provide asbestos, railing and other supports for roofing of the entire market. The haat was destroyed by the severe cyclonic storm Fani, which hit the city on May 3.
”We approached the company to help the traders on May 7 and they immediately agreed to do the needful. BMC Additional Commissioner Surath Mallick and Hindalco’s Ardhendu Mohapatra are coordinating for the project,’’ said Jai Odisha president Rudra Samantray.
Sources said the fabrication work for the roofing would start on Wednesday and the work would be completed in seven to 10 days’ time.
