The Nikhila Odisha Hinjida Mahasangha (NOHM) on Thursday threatened to gherao the Chief Minister’s residence Naveen Nivas here if its demand of special welfare board is not met within a fortnight.Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s has been befooling the transgender (TG) community since long by not opening a special department and a welfare board for them, said mahasangh leader Pratap Sahu.
Sahu slammed the State Government for not implementing Supreme Court’s order to include the TGs in the OBC category. “Patnaik finished his duty by inaugurating the Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in the Capital Hospital campus here. While TGs and PwDs come under this new department, no facility for TGs has been clearly mentioned,” he pointed out.
Sahu further alleged that the State Government has neither implemented NAlSA judgment nor Supreme Court’s order to look into the problems of the community. “Why the State Government doesn’t form a Hinjra Commission in the StateIJ Why it failed to give facilities to the TGs,” Sahu queried and warned that the Mahasangh would gherao Naveen Nivas if the Government fails meet their demands within 15 days.
