Experts attending a workshop on ‘Role of Media to Prevent Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace’ organised by the Institute of Social Development (ISD) here on Wednesday said awareness campaigns need to be carried out in the State to stop harassing women at workplaces.
The experts included MlA Priyadarshi Mishra, ISD president Namrata Chadha, Nirnaya Trust CEO B Girija Debi, Doordarshan Deputy Director General Jayanti Manjari Rath and State Commission for Women member Snigdha Panigrahy said media should highlight the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013 to make people aware about the act that protects women from sexual harassment at their workplace.
Chadha said sexual harassment of women at workplace is gradually increasing in the society as a good number of women have started working in different sectors. Keeping in view the Central Government has passed a law to protect women, who are vulnerable at workplace, but the Government doesn’t take any step to highlight the law, she added.
“As media reaches out to every corner of the country, it should take the noble step to highlight and promote the law so that every person can know its essence,” said ISD director Subhashree Das, adding, “By the way, attitude towards women in the society need to be changed.”
Among others, Centre for legal Aid to Poor (ClAP) director Bikash Das, ISD programme coordinator Rukmini Panda, Binapani Mallick and media students attended the workshop.
