The Covid-19 deaths continued to surge with 11 more people succumbing to the virus on Thursday, taking the total death toll to 591 in the State.
While Puri, Khordha (Bhubaneswar) and Cuttack districts reported two deaths each, Bhadrak, Ganjam, Koraput, Nayagarh and Rayagada recorded one each. The deceased in Bhubaneswar were a 70-year-old man and a 57 –year-old man. The casualties in Cuttack district were an 80-year-old man and a 49-year-old man. The Puri deaths were of a 60-year-old man and 17-year-old girl.
The other deceased were a 51-year-old man of Bhadrak, a 75-year-old man of Ganjam, a 71-year-old man of Koraput, a 68-year-old man of Nayagarh and a 65-year-old man of Rayagada.
On the day, the State reported the highest single-day 3,991 positive cases from all 30 districts and the State pool and the tally surged to 1,39,121. Among the new cases, 2,315 were from quarantine and 1,676 were local contacts. Khordha district reported the highest 687 cases followed by Cuttack 392, Puri 332, Balangir 180, Bargarh 169, Mayurbhanj 160, Jajpur 148, Kendrapada 147, Koraput 127, Nabarangpur 125, Angul 114, Jagatsinghpur 109, Sambalpur 104, Dhenkanal 101, Sundargarh 98, Nuapada 96, Ganjam 95, Bhadrak 82, Keonjhar 81, Baleswar, Kalahandi and Subarnapur 74 each, Rayagada 58, Kandhamal 57, Jharsuguda 49, Nayagarh 48, Boudh 41, Malkangiri 19 and Deogarh and Gajapati 18 each. Besides, the positives from the State pool were recorded at 114.However, another 2,706 patients recovered on the day, taking the total recoveries to at 1,08001.The highest 411 recovered in Cuttack followed by Khordha 354, Mayurbhanj 233, Ganjam 173, Nayagarh 152, Bargarh 139, Puri 132, Rayagada 101, Jharsuguda 93, Jajpur 92, Keonjhar 82, Sambalpur 81, Jagatsingpur 75, Kendrapada 66, Dhenkanal and Koraput 65 each, Bhadrak 53, Nabarangpur 52, Baleswar 38, Sundargarh 34, Kalahandi 33, Malkangiri 27, Balangir 25, Subarnapur, Boudh and Nuapada 23 each, Kandhamal 20, Gajapati 18, Angul 17 and Deogarh five.
