Higher study uncertain for N'pada migrant's daughter

Kajal Bag, a 14- year- old Dalit girl of Kamlamal village of Boden block wants to continue her study after 10th, but she cannot because her parents are unable to bear the cost of her education. Kajol has secured 64 per cent of marks in her HSC exam.

Kajol's parents are migrant workers. They have been going to Hyderabad for the last three years in search of job. Kajol stays in the residential school hostel when the parents are out. Her two siblings, a sister aged 12 years and one brother, aged eight, stay with the parents in the kiln to help them in brick work.

Kajal was desperate to apply in online portal for admission into +2, but could not as she had no money to pay to a computer shop for online filling of form. Her parents had migrated to Hyderabad to work in a brick kiln. In desperation, she fled to Rayagada after declaration of HSC result with some of her classmates who assured that they would get her admitted in a college. "Reaching there, they left me alone in the rail station," she said. She was rescued by the police and handed over to the CWC, Rayagada and later deported to Nuapada.

When her parents knew about her missing, they requested the contractor to leave them early from the kiln. The contactor allowed them but only after 15 days, without paying the wage as assured. However, by the time her parents returned, the last date was over. Now, Kajol has applied for admission in spot selection mode, but her parents say, she should rather accompany them in their next sojourn to the brick kiln. Kajol is now in a fix. "I have a dream but I am helpless" said Kajol.
