In yet another relief to the aggrieved students, the Orissa High Court on Tuesday asked the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi to re-evaluate the answer-sheets of at least 159 more students, who have approached the court alleging discrepancies in their Class XII results that were published in May.
A vacation Bench of Justice KR Mohapatra asked the students to apply with requisite fees for reevaluation of their desired papers at the CBSE Regional Office in Bhubaneswar by June 19. Accordingly, the CBSE authorities were asked to evaluate these answer papers again by engaging experts and publish results by June 30, said senior advocate Pitambar Acharya, who argued the case for one of the petitioners.
It may be recalled that the High Court last week had passed a similar order asking the CBSE to reevaluate the papers of at least 22 students, of whom only 18 applied for revaluation of their 51 answer papers. Experts, however, slightly hiked marks in three papers and did not change marks awarded in 31 papers, while marks were also a little reduced in 15 papers. Stating that there had been no change in the category of results of the 18 students, whose answer papers were revaluated by experts in the concerned subjects as per the direction of the High Court, CBSE counsel Tarananda Pattanayak said the CBSE takes appropriate measures to evaluate the answer papers meticulously. The CBSE, nevertheless, had filed a review petition in the court urging it to reconsider its earlier order for reevaluation of answer papers. Instead, the CBSE was inclined to entertain applications for rechecking of answer sheets. But Acharya argued that reevaluation was one of the elements of the policy governing the CBSE Class-XII examinations this year.
