Expressing discontentment over the process of re-allotment of the Sardar Rajas Medical College (SRMC), Kalahandi students to other medical colleges, MBBS students of the Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital, Bhubaneswar staged agitation at the lower PMG here on Wednesday.

The students alleged that the State Government has been providing allotment to the SRMC students by ignoring the entire counselling procedure and without giving due respect to merit of the students obtained in the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET)-2013. “candidates who have secured better rank than ours as well as those below are having the privilege of joining Government colleges while we are being declined the same, what is our fault,” questioned, Sonali Pradhan, a 2nd year student of the Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital.

The agitated students demanded proper upgradation of top MBBS seats through counseling procedures as per the merit list; and threatened to continue their agitation till their demands are met, said Somya Ranjan Panda, another student of the college.

Notably, the High Court on October 19 asked the State Government and Medical Council of India (MCI) to relocate all MBBS students of the SRMC, Kalahandi to other recognised State medical institutes within 14 days.

“Though we welcome the decision of the High Court hearing the plight of the SRMC, we request the High Court to give cognizance to us in the same matter,” he added.
