Prime Minister Modi's call to Indians to hoist the National Flag in their homes from August 13 to 15 to celebrate the 75 years of Indian Independence had its effect in one of the remote pockets of Lanjigarh block of Kalhandi district.
Tribals of Trilochanpur, Phuldimer, Kunakadu and Palberi residing around the Niyamgiri Hills honoured the Tiranga with enthusiasm.
Earlier, these villagers were not aware of the Independence Day. The region is yet to be developed. Officials neglected to visit it because of Maoist fear as it is one of the safest places for Maoists’ hideout. Maoist threats to development works are common here. Often, combing operation is done by police forces.
Despite all this, Lanjigath block officials went there and distributed Tricolours to the tribals on the eve of the Independence Day this year.
Lanjigarh BDO Jitendra Mishra said tribals held the flag for the first time since Independence. "It will invoke the feeling of patriotism in their hearts and promote awareness about the Indian National Flag," the BDO said.
Kutia Kondh Development Agency (KKDA) Project Officer Lambodhar Pradhan and Trilochanpur Panchayat Extension Officer Tapas Sahu were also present on the occasion of "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign.
