Hema Gamang may be back in Congress soon

Former Lok Sabha member Hema Gamang is most likely to join the Congress ahead of the elections. She is currently in New Delhi to meet senior leaders of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in this regard, she said.

“I was in the Congress in the past. I have good relations with senior leaders of the party’s State unit. So, there is nothing wrong in rejoining the Congress,” said Hema Gamang.

In April last year, she had resigned from the BJD alleging negligence towards her constituency. She had joined the BJD just before the Assembly elections in 2014 and unsuccessfully contested as a BJD candidate from the Laxmipur Assembly constituency.

Earlier in her career, Hema Gamang was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha in 1999 on a Congress ticket from the Koraput Parliamentary constituency. She was also a Congress MLA from the Gunupur constituency from 2004 to 2009.

Notably, she is the wife of former Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang, who is now in the BJP after having quit the Congress.
