Help migrants as moral duty: Niranjan

Published on:

PCC president Niranjan Patnaik on Tuesday urged the State Government to sincerely help the Odia migrants coming from other States as they have lost jobs and are under tremendous pressure.

“The Congress came forward to buy tickets for migrants coming from outside the State. Fort this, the party sought list but the Government didn’t listen. The Centre said it will bear 85 per cent ticket cost and the rest to be borne by the State Government. Nothing such happened. Now the State Government has decided cut the ticket price from Rs 2,000 which is given to migrants on the day they live quarantine centres. It is like Zijya tax being imposed on them,” alleged Patnaik.

Stating that all Odia migrants have lost jobs for the last two months and they are unable to return home due to lack of money, Patanik urged the Government to discharge moral duty to provide all support to them in this time of crisis.

He too demanded that the Government create more testing facilities in western Odisha as lakhs of migrants belonging to the region are yet to return home.
