The ban on entry of goods laden heavy vehicle to Jagatsinghpur town during daytime seems to have few takers here.
Reports said since the goods laden trucks, mainly those carrying sands from Alipingala Ghat in the Devi river, were causing inconveniences in Jagatsinghpur town, the district administration has imposed a ban on their entry.
As per the order, no sand laden truck can enter the town from 9 am to till evening to ensure smooth traffic. But the ban has a lukewarm response.
Reports said that a major mishap was avoided at Galupada Bazar on the Jagatsinghpur-Alipingal road on Wednesday when a heavy truck carrying sands hit a roadside electric pole. The pole with live wire fell on the road and the traffic movement was terminated for a few hours.
After the incident, locals converged at the spot and resorted to a road blockade claiming a ban on sand laden truck plying on the Alipinga road. The police and civil administration officials rushed to the spot and pacified the irate public.
