Heavy rains hit life in Twin City, Puri

Published on:

After a few days of hot and humid conditions, heavy rains provided respite from the heat but resulted in misery of the residents of twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar by throwing normal life out of gear.

Residents in the twin cities, Puri and several other towns woke up to cloudy weather. Soon, incessant spells of heavy rains lashed many parts of the State.

In Bhubaneswar, heavy downpours caused waterlogging in several low-lying and poor-drainage areas such as ISKCON, Nayapalli, Acharya Vihar and Bomikhal, thereby causing traffic jams.

Poor visibility and waterlogging also affected vehicular communication in other parts of the capital city.

Heavy rains also caused inundation in several parts of Cuttack city while a flood-like situation also developed in the holy town of Puri.

According to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Regional Office, Puri received 87 mm of rain between 8.30 add and 11.30 on the day, the highest in the State. Bhubaneswar recorded more than 24 mm of rain followed by 15 mm in Paradip and Chandbali.

Moreover, the weather office issued an advisory for heavy rainfall in the State even as two back-to-back low pressure systems are likely to form over the Bay of Bengal.
