The Metrological Centre here on Friday predicated that heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty surface wind is likely to occur in several parts of Odisha in next two days due to a fresh well-marked low pressure (WMl) area in the region.

The WMl area now lies over the Gangetic West Bengal and neighbourhood. Under its impact, rains and thundershowers would occur at most places over Odisha while heavy to very heavy rainfall (124.4 mm to 244.4 mm) is likely at a few places over Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Baleswar and Sundargarh districts during next 48 hours, the Met office said.

Extremely heavy showers (more than 244.4 mm) are also expected at one or two places during the period, it said, adding that heavy rainfall may also occur at one or two places over Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Deogarh and Bargarh districts. Gusty surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph and even up to 65 kmph may prevail along and off the Odisha Coast. As sea condition would be rough to very rough, fishermen were advised not to venture into sea.
