Heavy rain wreaks havoc in M'giri town

Published on:

Heavy rain under the influence of a low pressure wreaked havoc in Malkangiri town and threw normal life out of gear.

Reports said floodwaters as high as five feet flowing through the main road of the town disrupted traffic. When waters flowed through the Botiguda area at the centre of the town, 23 families of the area were forced to move to safer places.

As knee-deep flood water flowed over the bridge at MV 11, connectivity to Malkangiri was severed. local MlA Manas Madkami has visited flood affected areas of the town to take stock of the situation.

Meanwhile, an IMD bulletin said the northern and southern region of the State might get heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours as a new low pressure has been formed over north Andaman Sea and adjoining East-central Bay of Bengal.

Due to its influence, rain and thundershower would occur at many places over south Odisha and at a few places over north Odisha, said the bulletin.
