Under the impact of ‘Bulbul’, strong winds and heavy rains lashed the Paradip coast on Saturday.
During the last 24 hours, Paradip received a rainfall of 159 mm and squally winds reached 65-85 km per hour. As knee-deep water inundated houses in slums, residents took shelter in nearby buildings or cyclone centres.
Many trees were uprooted and branches of many others broken, as a result of which roads were blocked for hours. NDRF, ODRAF, PPT CISF, police and fire personnel were engaged for clearing uprooted trees.
Things came to normal after the cyclone weakened in the afternoon.
The Paradip Port Trust suspended cargo operation from Friday night. After the situation improved on Saturday afternoon, the port operations were normalised.
