A joint team of security personnel comprising CRPF and DVF jawans on Wednesday had an intensive exchange of fire with Maoists in the Ubulu forest under the Handapa police station in Angul district bordering Sambalpur district.
Sambalpur SP Akhileswar Singh said the operation was carried out basing on intelligence inputs about the movement of two Maoists near the Ubulu forests.
The SP said the combing operation began on February 15 evening.
“A Maoist camp was traced near the Ubulu forests at 6 pm on February 15. Two Maoists were present there. They spotted our men and started opening fire. In retaliation, our men fired back. However, the ultras managed to flee from the spot,” said the SP.
“Though several rounds were fired from either side during the gun-battle, no injury or casualty has been reported,” added Singh.
The security men seized four magazines, a radio and a computer from the crime spot.
The SP said Maoist activities have decreased and there was no specific Maoists camp in the district in last one and a half years.
“During this period, we have faced Maoists four times and managed to nab two of them,” said Singh.
